At the very top, Satan devours the souls of sinners, while many damned souls are tormented by demonic creatures and fires on the layers beneath him. In the bottom left corner outside the pyramid, devils ferry new souls by boat. Throughout the artwork, explanatory Latin texts detail various sins.
